This recipe is a family classic, passed on to me by my nanny and now good friend, Tresea. We had it every year on the Fourth of July growing up, and between it and watermelon, life was good.
Good barbecue comes in many forms, and we could argue about what kind is best all day long, but a definite classic is the pulled pork sandwich. This recipe is about as easy as they come, since you don't really have to do any work but put that Boston butt in your slow cooker and buy some sauce. So get yourself some sweet tea, and dig in!
Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Barbecue
Serves 8-10
Time: 10 hours
Ingredients:
4-5 lb Boston butt, tied
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 bottle of your favorite barbecue sauce
Directions:
1. Cook the meat in water to cover for 6 hr on high or 8-10 hour on low. The meat should be tender. Remove the butt and allow it to cool. Reserve the liquid.
2. Untie and trim the fat from the butt. Using either your fingers or two forks, break the meat into bite-size pieces, discarding the fat as you go. Add the meat back to the slow cooker with the vinegar and 1/2 cup of liquid, and sauce to taste. Keep warm for 30 minutes, then serve.
